By Marama Te Whata Last updated June 2026

How we collect, use, share, retain and protect your personal information — written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its 13 Information Privacy Principles.

By The Wilde Florist Editorial Team · Last updated 24 June 2026 · See our rating methodology.

The Wilde Florist (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates thewildeflorist.co.nz, an independent New Zealand comparison site for online casinos, sportsbooks and crypto casinos. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains, in plain NZ English, what personal information we collect, why we collect it, the lawful basis on which we hold it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

In short

We are a content and comparison publisher — not a gambling operator. We do not run games, take deposits, hold wagers, or process betting transactions. We never see your operator account balance, KYC documents or payment details. Those are handled by the licensed or offshore sites you choose to register with directly.

1. Who is responsible for your information

The Wilde Florist is the “agency” responsible for the personal information described in this policy, as that term is used in the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you have any question about how we handle your data, you can reach our privacy contact at [email protected] or via our contact page.

2. The Privacy Act 2020 and the 13 Information Privacy Principles

Our handling of personal information is governed by the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, which is administered by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The Act sets out 13 Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) that frame everything we do. In summary, the IPPs require us to:

  • only collect personal information we genuinely need, for a lawful purpose connected with our activities (IPP 1);
  • collect it directly from you wherever practical (IPP 2);
  • tell you why we are collecting it and how it will be used (IPP 3);
  • collect it in a fair, lawful and non-intrusive way (IPP 4);
  • store it securely and guard against loss, misuse or unauthorised access (IPP 5);
  • give you access to the information we hold about you (IPP 6);
  • correct that information when you ask (IPP 7);
  • check it is accurate before we use it (IPP 8);
  • not keep it for longer than we need it (IPP 9);
  • use it only for the purpose we collected it for (IPP 10);
  • limit who we disclose it to (IPP 11);
  • protect it before any overseas disclosure (IPP 12); and
  • not use a government-issued identifier as our own account reference (IPP 13).

This policy is written to give effect to each of those principles.

3. What personal information we collect

Because we are a comparison site rather than an operator, the information we collect is limited. It falls into the following categories:

  • Contact details you give us. If you email us, use our contact form, submit a tip, or subscribe to updates, we collect your name, email address and the content of your message.
  • Technical and usage data. When you visit, our servers and analytics tools automatically log your IP address, approximate location (typically only your region within New Zealand), browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Cookie and identifier data. We and our analytics providers set cookies and similar identifiers to remember your preferences and to understand how the site is used. See section 4.
  • Affiliate click data. When you click an outbound link to a casino or sportsbook, our affiliate tracking records that a referral originated from our site so we can be credited. This is typically an anonymous or pseudonymous click identifier — it does not include your name.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and you must be 18 or older to gamble in New Zealand. We do not collect sensitive information such as health, financial account numbers or government identifiers.

4. Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them to keep the site working, remember your choices, and measure traffic so we can improve our reviews. The main categories are:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — required for the site to function and to remember your cookie choices.
  • Analytics cookies — privacy-respecting, aggregated measurement of visits and popular pages.
  • Affiliate / referral cookies — record that a visit to an operator came from us.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics or affiliate cookies will not stop you reading the site. For full detail on each cookie we set, see our Cookie Policy.

5. Why we collect it and our lawful basis

Under IPP 1 we only collect information for a lawful purpose connected with running this site. Specifically we use your information to:

  • respond to your enquiries, tips and feedback;
  • send updates and newsletters where you have asked to receive them;
  • understand which guides and reviews are useful, and improve our content;
  • keep the site secure and detect misuse or fraud; and
  • record affiliate referrals so that listed operators can compensate us, as disclosed in our advertising notice.

Our lawful basis is your provision of the information for these stated purposes (for example, when you email us or subscribe), our legitimate interest in operating and securing a publishing business, and our compliance with New Zealand law. Where the law requires consent — for example, marketing emails under the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 — we obtain it and you can withdraw it at any time.

6. Third parties, affiliates and how we make money

The Wilde Florist is funded by affiliate commission. When you follow a link to a casino or sportsbook and sign up, the operator may pay us a referral fee. This never changes our ratings, which are decided independently under our published methodology. We share limited information with a small number of trusted third parties so the site can run:

  • Web hosting and content delivery providers that store and serve our pages.
  • Analytics providers that give us aggregated traffic statistics.
  • Email and newsletter platforms used only if you subscribe.
  • Affiliate networks and the operators themselves, which receive the anonymous referral signal when you click an outbound link.

We do not sell your personal information. We only disclose it as described here, or where we are required to by New Zealand law or a lawful request from an authority such as the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) or the courts.

When you leave our site

Once you click through to a casino or sportsbook, you are subject to that operator’s own privacy policy — not ours. NZ-licensed operators (under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026, with the licence regime live from 1 December 2026) and offshore operators each handle your KYC, payments and account data themselves. Always read their privacy terms before depositing.

7. Sending data overseas

Some of our service providers (hosting, analytics, email and affiliate networks) operate outside New Zealand. Where we disclose information to an overseas provider, IPP 12 requires us to take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected by comparable safeguards. We only use reputable providers with appropriate contractual and technical protections in place.

8. How long we keep your information

In line with IPP 9, we do not keep personal information for longer than we need it for the purpose it was collected. As a guide:

  • Email and contact enquiries are kept while we deal with your matter and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records.
  • Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics and server logs are kept in aggregated or short-retention form, then deleted or anonymised.

When information is no longer required, and we are not obliged to retain it under New Zealand law, we securely delete or anonymise it.

9. How we keep your information secure

Under IPP 5 we use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access or disclosure. These include encrypted (HTTPS) connections, access controls, and trusted providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and would notify affected people and the Privacy Commissioner of any privacy breach that is likely to cause serious harm, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.

10. Your rights: access and correction

The Privacy Act 2020 gives you two important rights over the personal information we hold about you:

  • Access (IPP 6): you can ask us to confirm whether we hold information about you and to give you a copy of it.
  • Correction (IPP 7): you can ask us to correct any information that is wrong, out of date, incomplete or misleading.

To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond as soon as reasonably practical and, in any case, within 20 working days. Access is normally free; we will tell you in advance if any charge applies. You can also ask us to delete information or to stop sending marketing at any time.

11. How to make a complaint

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the:

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law — including the new NZ online gambling regime under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 — or in how we operate. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
